Art at Cider Mill

At Cider Mill we will be covering the mediums of drawing, painting, ceramic sculpture, weaving and printmaking. We often integrate math, language arts, science, social studies, and world language  connections for cross-curricular learning. Our art curriculum at Cider Mill focuses on meeting the National Core Standards for Visual Art, which can be found at: http://www.nationalartsstandards.org/ We will also discuss themes that will help students make connections between art, visual culture and the world around them.

Here are some goals for your student in art this school year:

  • practice problem solving and critical thinking.

  • learn about history and culture through art.

  • use a variety of methods to express abstract ideas and emotions.

  • learn to trust their own creativity.

  • learn about concepts, materials and techniques that will help give them control of the visual images they produce.

  • develop an  art vocabulary that will help them to understand and speak about works of art.

  • create artwork that they are proud to share.

We will meet once a week for 1 hour.  You may send in a smock for your student, that they can keep in their locker and then put on before they come to art if you wish, they are not mandatory. Students can also plan ahead and wear the appropriate clothing on an art day, similar to how they would wear sneakers on a day that they have gym.

At the end of the year Cider Mill hosts an art show where some of the work that your student creates will be showcased. Please keep a lookout for invitations as the year goes on!
