Scholastics Art Show

Founded in 1923, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Program is the oldest and most prestigious high school art and writing competition in the U.S.

The Scholastics Art Awards, dedicated to identifying students with exceptional artistic talent, serve as a platform to showcase their remarkable work. Jurors look for work that exemplifies the Awards' core values:  originality, technical skills, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.

For the National Awards students across America submit almost 340,000 works in 29 categories and less than 1 percent of those works received national awards!.

Congratulations to our 2025 Scholastics Award Recipients

We're thrilled to announce the outstanding achievements of our art students at the 2025 Scholastics Art Award show held at Hartford Art School.  Congratulations to Lauren Hohn, Lucia Kwei, Derek Huang, Henry Zhou, Zachary Coleman, Grace Gordon, Samantha McDonnell, Theordore Satrazemis, Ariana Peters, Kenji Sahay, Moon Zhang, Lia Friedman and Wesley Bull for their remarkable accomplishment.

Wilton  ranked as one of the top schools in the State of CT for the most medals won at Scholastics Art Awards.  Wilton secured a total of 17 awards, among these were 7 Gold medals, 4 Silver medals, and 6 Honorable Mention awards. A special highlight goes to Lia Friedman, who won the prestigious "Hartford Art School Scholarship” for a total of 130 thousand dollars and a gold medal for her portfolio. Equally impressive is Wesley Bull, winning "Best in Mixed Media" and a gold medal with his piece "Kintsugi”. Wesley also won “Best in Ceramics” for his piece “Riptide”. This achievement propels Wesley into the National competition along with the other six gold medalists.

The Scholastics Art Awards, dedicated to identifying students with exceptional artistic talent, serve as a platform to showcase their remarkable work. As the nation's longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. Scholastics value originality, technical skills, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision in the submitted works. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards has recognized such artists, designers, and performers as Amanda Gorman, Ken Burns, Andy Warhol, and Lena Dunham. National Medalists and their educators are honored with a star-studded ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City in June. Recent special guests include Oprah Winfrey, Tim Gunn, Alec Baldwin, Tituss Burgess, Amy Schumer, Kelly Clarkson, Zac Posen, Mayim Bialik, Tschabalala Self, Nick Cannon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Derek Luke, Kinsale Drake, Tina Fey, and Rose Byrne. Kudos to Bernie Huang, Danielle Westgate, Ava Keogh, Jessica Fang, Theodore Satrazemis, Josie Silva, Shayna Wilson-Spiro,  Muna Jallow, and Moon Zhang  for their remarkable accomplishment.

Wilton  ranked as one of the top schools in the State of CT for the most medals won at Scholastics Art Awards.  Wilton secured a total of 14 awards, among these were 8 Gold medals, 2 Silver medals, and 4 Honorable Mention awards. 

A special highlight goes to Theodore Satrazemis, who clinched the prestigious "American Visions Award” and a gold medal for his work. Each region in the country has jurors select up to five works to be nominated for the American Visions award. These nominated works are then reviewed by national judges to receive the single “American Visions Award” for the Scholastics Art awards. Congratulations to Theodore for his captivating photograph: "Curious About Life in LA,". 

Equally impressive is Jessica Fang, winning "Best in Show for Painting" and a gold medal with her piece "Ephemeral Release." This achievement propels her into the National competition. Jessica won a total of three scholastics awards, which is an outstanding achievement. 

Ava Keogh's dedication, creativity, and artistic prowess have not only earned her a Gold Medal for her outstanding Mixed Media piece titled “Threaded Echoes of Despair” but also the prestigious "Best in Show for Mixed Media" award.

In addition, students Ava Keogh and Shayna Wilson-Spiro, have each been awarded the prestigious "Artist of Promise Scholarship" for the Hartford Art School, with each scholarship valued at an impressive $23,000 per year for a total of four-year award of $92,000.

Congratulations to Cindy Rodriquez and Jessica Fang!

Cindy Rodriquez won "Best in Photography" for the state of Connecticut in the 2023 Scholastics Art and Writing Awards! Her piece, called "Twilight Dream”, earned her the show's top prize in the Photography category, and moved her into the National competition. 

Jessica Fang won for "Best in Sculpture" for the state of Connecticut for the 2023 Scholastics Art and Writing Awards! Her piece called "Losing Myself", earned her the show's top prize in the Sculpture category.  Both of these students received a Gold Medal at the Scholastics Art Award show at Hartford Art School. 

Wilton won a total of 17 medals at the 2023 Scholastics Art and Writing Awards. Wilton came in second place for the most medals won from one town for the State of Connecticut. Of the 17 metals, Wilton won 8 Gold awards and 6 silver metals and 3 'Best in State" awards.

Jill Roberts and Taylor Felipe received Gold Key Metals at the National Scholastic Art and Writing Ceremony on June 8th at Carnegie Hall in NYC.  Shayna Wilson-Spiro won a gold key in Painting for the state and a Silver key in the national competition.
